John F. Mcginley Jr. has been a practicing commercial attorney in virginia since 1977 and a founding member of the firm since 1984. After practicing for five years with a commercial litigation firm located in the district of columbia, Mr. Mcginley recognized the need for firms that served small and medium size businesses in Northern Virginia, and particularly in Old Town Alexandria. Alexandria is a central location for the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and the Alexandria Circuit Court, and has easy access to the Fairfax Circuit Court.
In his 35 years of practice since receiving his law degree from the university of virginia school of law, mr. mcginley has participated in nearly every kind of commercial transaction and litigated nearly every manner of commercial dispute known to the law. Mr. Mcginley has handled cases as diverse as litigation over disputes on commercial shopping centers and office building projects; banking issues involving uniform commercial code claims and depositor claims for money laundering losses; Miller Act claims on government contracts and construction claims; disputes by joint venturers on ip contracts; patent and licensing disputes, and valuation of businesses in divorce cases.
On the transactional side, Mr. Mcginley has handled the formation of numerous real estate ventures; the formation and transactions for engineering, construction management and architectural firms; joint ventures for computer companies on state and federal contracts; the formation and continued representation of several successful area restaurants; the acquisition of defense related and other companies; and the production company for a full length motion picture.
Mr. mcginley took his degrees from the University of Virginia Undergraduate in 1974, and the University of Virginia Law School in 1977, and is a member of the Virginia State Bar and its Commercial Law Section, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Alexandria Bar Association.
