Drewry Hutcheson Jr. is an experienced attorney who practices regularly in all Northern Virginia State Courts as well as the United States District Court in Alexandria. His practice focuses on criminal and traffic defense where he excels in assisting people confronting prosecutions. With a reputation for working effectively for clients with judges, prosecutors and lawyers he has been earning successful results for his clients for thirty years. he also assists clients through difficult situations in the area of family law and occasional other general practice areas.
Mr. Hutcheson has extensive litigation experience in civil and criminal bench and jury trials. Much of his trial experience has come from the Federal Court in Alexandria where he has participated in over twenty federal court jury trials and conducted countless other successful pleas and sentencings. Civil litigation has involved domestic relations, real estate partition suits, contracts and collections, civil fraud and other torts.
In appellate practice he has argued successfully before the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Virginia Court of appeals in matters of criminal and family law. One such appeal resulted in a sentencing victory involving the counting of prior convictions for purposes of the career offender enhancement, resulting in an amendment to the United States sentencing guidelines.
Drew Hutcheson is a 1977 graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History. he earned his J.D. from the College of William and Mary’s School of Law in 1982. He has been a member of the Virginia State Bar since 1982 and is a member of its criminal, family law and general practice sections.
He is a past president of the Alexandria Bar Association and has served as a Director of the Bar’s charitable foundation.
